What does Papakea mean?
Papakea means "white sands".
Where is Papakea? Located in West Maui, on the beach, one mile north of Ka'anapali, three miles north of Lahaina. Please see map from Kahalui Airport. What is the weather like? Varies between 72-85 degrees summer and winter; rains occasionally, but rarely all day, or you can get away from the rain by going to Kihei. Is there whale watching? November thru April. Can occasionally be seen from our Lanai or you can get up close and personal by taking a whale watching boat. This time of the year is also a great time for surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing. What about right at the condo? Great swimming, snorkeling to see many colorfull fish and turtles beyond first reef. What about flying tips? There are direct flights to Kahului, Maui from San Francisco and Oakland International Airports and many other West Coast cities, with connections from other major airports. You can also fly into Honolulu International Airport and take one of the inter-island flights to either Kahului or West Maui Airport at Kapalua which is just two miles north of Papakea. Rental cars or shuttles are available at both airports. Kahului Airport is about 30 miles (45 minutes) to Papakea (see map). What shopping is close to Papakea? Across the street from Papakea is the Star Market shopping center. Other shopping areas are close by with Safeway and Longs in the Cannery Shopping Center a little over two miles toward Lahaina. Be sure and check out The Whaler Shopping Center at Ka'anapali. Recreation and eating? Besides on-site tennis, swimming in one of two pools, relaxing in one of the two spas, shuffle board or the two putting greens, there are many world class golf courses and restaurants nearby. Just check with the concierge at Activity World in the lobby. They can make reservations for you for helicopter tours, jet skis, parasailing, luaus, etc. What's in the condo? The condo is completely furnished for all your needs, just bring shorts and beach towels.
